Criminals don’t recognise borders. EU prosecutors and judges will work together in investigation teams to bring them to justice.

The joint investigation teams collaboration platform (JITs CP) is one of the most advanced tools in international cooperation in criminal matters, comprising legal agreement between competent authorities of two or more EU Member States. The platform will support the functioning of joint teams performing international criminal investigations in the EU, as well as globally.

Architecture

The platform consists of:

  • A centralised information system providing a temporary central data storage;
  • Communication software for non-traceable communication;
  • Connection between the centralised information system and IT tools supporting the functioning of JITs.

Benefits

  • JITs CP is expected to increase efficient communication among international criminal investigation team members, having a vast impact on the speed with which complex criminal investigations are handled by national authorities, as well as EU bodies, such as Eurojust;
  • Via the JITs CP, members will be able to exchange evidence and other critical information, necessary for ongoing investigations, in a secure manner;
  • Members will also have access to a secure communication channel and evaluate their JIT throughout its lifecycle;
  • Exchanges of evidence will be traced via advanced logging and tracking mechanisms;
  • JITs CP will connect with existing tools operated by various EU organisations, thus improving the exchange of critical information amongst them, and improving judicial and law enforcement processes in general.

JITs CP is scheduled to enter into operations on 7 December 2025.
