DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IS KEY IN GUARANTEEING A SAFER EUROPE
We help implement asylum, migration, and border control policies in Europe by using the large-scale IT systems that we develop and manage. Through innovation, we are taking EU internal security and border control to the next level - fully digital. We are making it happen for a safer Europe.
Core Activities - IT Systems
We carry out several important activities to ensure that Europe's border security and migration flows are managed effectively. This is dependent on the operation of large, Europe-wide information systems such as Eurodac, SIS, VIS, and future systems: EES, ETIAS, ECRIS-TCN.
As of 2012, eu-LISA plays an integral role in the operational management of large-scale IT systems and databases. Each system makes it possible for relevant authorities from all around the EU to collaborate.
Getting these technologies to operate together is an essential step if the EU is to improve information availability, efficiency, and security.
Discover moreInteroperability
Tying all the systems together means, in one word, Interoperability - which is key to getting the most out of available data, allowing border control authorities to effectively detect, identify, and prohibit persons who represent a security risk, from entering the Schengen Area. It also enables law enforcement agencies to have access to integrated data and migration management agencies to run asylum procedures effectively and completely. This will allow the appropriate authorities to get data quickly when they need it while still complying with all data privacy laws.
Achieving Interoperability is no easy feat and often requires identifying and incorporating the latest technologies.

eu-LISA is constantly monitoring new technologies aiming to support and safeguard EU citizens. Given the rapidly evolving world of technology, we have to ensure our partners are using the latest, cutting-edge solutions that are available.
Considering the complexity and cross-links between systems, we also need to provide optimal support to the system users.

We provide technical training to IT experts and other law enforcement officials from the Member States that operate our IT systems in the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) domain.
